Is It Standard For Garden Apartment Complexes To Have Storage Spaces?

We're always looking for clever ways to maximise our outdoor space while still keeping it pretty.

It's all about making the most of the space you've got, and as garden designer Matt Keightley says: 'What you lack in floor space, you can make up for in wall space.'

With the help of some experts, wood care specialists Cuprinol have shared some advice on getting the most out of your garden - even if space is restricted.

When it comes to planting, horticultural expert Matt Biggs suggests: 'Always plant for your space. If you buy vigorous plants you will be endlessly pruning, digging out and cutting back. Ferns are great low maintenance plants and are the perfect way to inject a little green to your garden. I'd recommend using white, ornamental fiberglass pots in small spaces. You can put plain plastic pots in an ornamental terracotta as an outer sleeve – which also saves on watering.'

With gardens, appearance is everything, and colour and design expert Emily Simpson says colour blocking is a great way to get creative.

'This palette of fresh energetic blues and yellows will add a lively touch to your small space, creating a refreshing appeal even on a grey day', says Emily. 'Beach Blue and Dazzling Yellow are brilliantly bright and add a real colour punch. Coastal Mist is a light pale blue that helps to ground the more vibrant shades, balancing their intensity.

'This scheme is full of character, and when you're dealing with small spaces you can afford to be daring with colour as the physical scale of the space will always keep colour on the right side of bold.'

So, how can we make the most of our space?

'Often small spaces present a challenge that is crucial to overcome – making the most of every inch,' Matt explains. 'Look up, and think vertically! I find bespoke furniture is the best way to make the most of a small space. It can be especially designed to fit into both awkward and tight spaces.

'Hanging chairs for example can be stored when they aren't being used, taking up less space and making your garden more functional. Sourcing furniture that also doubles up as storage such as a storage bench, is a great way to ensure your space is both practical as well as stylish.'
